CHOIRS & CONCERTS

Visiting choir members are most welcome to join the choir for Sunday services whilst in Malta. Please make yourself known to the sidespersons who will conduct you to the choir vestry where you will be given music and a robe.

St Paul's has long cultivated its musical tradition. As well as a regular Sunday Choir, the St Paul Choral Society - a local Choir directed by the Organist, Dr Agius Muscat - sings at certain significant services.

The Pro-Cathedral and Holy Trinity Church both welcome visiting choirs and musicians,
both at services and for concert performances, to mutual benefit.

The Pro-Cathedral is a significant landmark in Valletta, such a welcome also allows us to contribute to the musical life of the city.

Concerts are free, though a retiring collection for the
Organ Restoration Fund is usually taken.

If you would like to book a performance please contact
Jean Attard  21411088 or Mike Turner 99211305

ELECTORAL ROLL

The Electoral Roll membership
for the the
Anglican Church in Malta & Gozo
at the Annual Meeting
8th May 2011

    St Paul's Pro-Cathedral ~ 111
    Holy Trinity Church ~ 72
The Congregation  on Gozo ~ 34

Electoral Roll Officer:
Mrs Beryl Fenech

The Electoral Roll is a list of baptised lay members of the Church of England over the age of sixteen who live in Malta & Gozo or attend regular public worship there, and who form the church’s register of electors; it is the list of people qualified to attend the Annual Meeting where questions are raised on church matters and matters of general church interest, and where the Church Council is elected.
The laity have their place in every aspect of church life, including its doctrine and services. An enrolled member is a voting member of the Church of England and so helps to ensure that the Church Council, the Diocesan Synod and the General Synod are fully representative of its members.

If you wish to join the roll please ask for an application form from the Electoral Roll Officer, the Priests, Chaplain's wardens or Church Wardens .

When is a new Electoral Roll prepared?
A completely new Electoral Roll has to be prepared every six years starting from the year 2007. Notice announcements are given in the Churches to the effect that the new Electoral Roll is being prepared, and those on the old roll are reminded of the need to re-apply for inclusion on the new one.
In other years the roll undergoes a process of annual revision to keep it up to date. There is no need for fresh forms to be filled in by anyone already on the roll.

When is a name removed from the roll?
This happens if someone dies, becomes ordained, requests that his/her name be removed or if someone no longer lives in Malta & Gozo and has not been a regular worshipper for six months.

The Annual Meeting
This takes place in April of each year. Here, the priests, wardens, church council and other members of the church present published reports to the whole church. Members meet to listen and discuss finance, present and future aspects of church life, besides the election of various posts. It is at this time questions and answers take place to produce a healthy church environment for the future.

FINANCE

Our Churches are 100% self-supporting.
We rely entirely on our own
giving and fund-raising efforts, together with donations from
visitors and friends, to meet our expenses. If you can help by
giving a donation, we would
be very grateful.

Please consider Gift Aid.

To qualify it is neccessary that you pay an amount of UK income tax and / or capital gains tax at least equal to the tax that the Diocese in Europe reclaims on your donations in the tax year (currently 28p for each £1 you give). If you pay at the higher rate you can claim further tax relief in your Self Assessment tax return. If you are unsure whether your donations qualify for Gift Aid tax relief, ask the Diocese in Europe (see links page). Or you can ask your local tax office for leaflet IR113 Gift Aid. A Gift Aid Declaration form, can be sent to you by our Treasurer.

WEDDINGS IN  MALTA AND GOZO

It is possible to be married in an Anglican Church on Malta in either St Paul’s Pro-Cathedral, Valletta, or in Holy Trinity Church, Sliema.

For Gozo, in exceptional circumstances marriages can be conducted in a Roman Catholic Church, but this is dependent on the goodwill of the local clergy.

We would normally expect there to be some good reason for the marriage to take place on the islands and it is important that anyone contemplating such a ceremony should contact the Chaplains well in advance.

It is also possible to arrange marriage blessings where there has been a civil ceremony and these too take place in either of our churches.

The Anglican Church is also happy to arrange services of thanksgiving or renewal of vows for those who have been married for some time; this can take place during one of our normal services or as a special event.

Wedding Fees in Malta
€1250 for non-residents &
€650 for residents on the electoral roll (or Stirling equivalent) Paid as a Donation and Gift Aided if UK Tax payer. (Fees do not include include Organist, Choir, Bells, Flowers etc)
( See ‘Finance’ section above for Gift Aid information )

The Chaplains will gladly help anyone who seeks their assistance.
Please contact them with requests for baptism, confirmation, weddings, wedding blessings, funerals or other services.

They are happy to answer questions about any of the above.
